Hiking:

For those of you who may be tired of walking around the lake, perhaps a walk up the Appalachian Trail will bring a change of scenery.

If you head out the main entrance of the lake, go left. When you come to the stop sign turn right. As you cross the small bridge and start to head up the hill you will see a small dirt road that looks like a driveway. It is just past the second house on the left
( for the old timers, that was Mr Sterlings house ). I do not know if you're allowed to park there.

As you head up the trail, it will begin to level off. At this point the Appalachian Trail is to your right ( to head to Rt 206 ), and to your left to head south. If you turn right there is not much of a view until you cross Rt 206 and reach the fire tower.

If you continue straight you will come to an intersection. Turning left is about a 2 mile road that is a dead end. A right turn will take you out to Rt 206 just north of the Stokes Sport Shop. If you head straight, this will take you towards Tillmans Ravine, Buttermilk Falls, and into Walpack Center.

If you head left, ( where the trail leveled off ) you will have about a 2 mile walk until you reach a clearing on the top of the mountain that will offer great views of Walpack and Pennsylvania.

Fall would be the most scenic time to head up the mountain.

Remember:
The walk is pretty rough and sneakers are not recommended.
Bring food, water, and emergency communications ( cell phone, or 2 meter ham radio ).
You are in bear country.
