The President
Grant Pursell :
WELCOME to our latest addition to our website! I intend to use this page as an informational tool to keep you informed about what is happening around the lake. I will try to update it on a regular basis, and will be listing decisions by your Board of Directors, as well as any news items that are of interest to the community.
The lake office will be open this Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, from 12:00 to 2:00 for residents to pick up their beach badges. You must be a resident in good standing to be eligible. Have a great holiday weekend!
ANNUAL LAKE CLEAN-UP
Our annual clean-up was held on Saturday, May 3. Despite the poor weather conditions, we had about a dozen people turn out to help, and approximately 15 bags of litter were collected. Unfortunately, we only had enough people to clean up the main areas around the upper lake this time. Many thanks to those who braved the conditions to volunteer their time. PLEASE help keep our community clean during the rest of the year. Take a bag with you once in a while when you take a walk, and pick up several items of trash. If many of us help out, we can keep the area looking good year ‘round.
CURFEW EXTENDED TO 10:00 PM
A number of residents showed up at the May 1 Board meeting to express concerns about several things, one of which was the 9:00 PM curfew on Country Club properties for anyone under the age of 21. This policy was enacted by the Board in 2006, after the East Beach area became a late-night hangout for a group of young people, resulting in underage drinking and loud partying. The policy was effective in reducing this problem, but many parents have objected to the early time. In response, the Board voted to extend the curfew to 10:00 PM on a trial basis. A number of parents have agreed to be called if the kids start to get out of hand. We are counting on them, as well as their kids, to help keep things under control.
GYPSY MOTHS – 2008
It’s getting to be that time of year again when we have to start thinking about another gypsy moth invasion. The State will be doing a limited amount of aerial spraying in Hampton Township this year. They will only be doing one application, and Crandon Lakes is not scheduled to be included. Only about 50 acres along Mountain Road will be sprayed in our area. Stillwater Township does not plan to do any spraying this year.
So, if you are concerned about the trees on your property, you should consider hiring a private company to spray your trees. Many of us used the Bartlett Tree Company the past two years, and the results were immediate, with very few caterpillars surviving. Typical costs were between $200 and $250, depending on the number of trees sprayed. The Board of Directors has again voted to have the trees on the East Beach and Cove area sprayed. These trees are an asset that we cannot afford to lose!
PARKING LOT
As most of you have observed by now, our parking lot has finally been paved. Not only does it look 1,000% better, this will put an end to the buildup of gravel and dirt from the parking lot into our lake, which had become a big problem. We still need to plant some grass around the edges of the lot, and perhaps some low shrubs in the small islands in front. The islands were put there to prevent cars from parking right out along the edge of the road. We felt this was a safety hazard, as oncoming cars could not see people exiting the parking lot.

NEXT BOARD MEETING
The next meeting of the Board of Directors will be on Thursday, August 28 at 7:30. A reminder that the office will be open to anyone to stop by on that date between 7:00 and 7:30 to bring something to our attention. We welcome your input.
LOT FOR SALE
As we mentioned some time ago, the Country Club has been preparing a building lot to offer for sale. The lot is now officially available, and interested parties should contact Century 21 in Branchville at 973-948-5552. This is a pre-approved 1.5 acre lot in Hampton Township stretching between East Shore Drive and Lone Pine Trail, near the office.
SPORTS ACTIVITIES ARE UP AND RUNNING!
What are you waiting for? Get out there and get active! The volleyball court is all set up, the new bases are installed on the ballfield, the new horseshoe pits are ready, and we just painted new lines for our pickleball court. All we need now are players! Don't forget that you can sign out all kinds of sports equipment at the office, including the boundry markers for the volleyball court.
OFF ROAD VEHICLES
One of our biggest problems in the community continues to be the use of off-road vehicles on our roads. The Board has decided to take a ZERO TOLERANCE approach toward this, and will be asking our security personnel to immediately begin prosecuting those who violate this policy. If you know of someone who is using an ATV or illegal dirt bike on our roads, call security at 973-948-2738 and leave a message. We will not reveal your name. Our security personnel will begin to look for them until they are caught. At that time, they will be prosecuted.
OFFICE TO OPEN PRIOR TO BOARD MEETINGS
In an attempt to make the office and the Board more easily accessible to residents, the Board has decided to open the
office at least one-half hour before each meeting. The intent is to give people an opportunity to drop off or pick up paperwork, and to relay any ideas directly to us. Meetings usually start at 7:30, so the office will be open by 7:00 PM on those days. Board meetings themselves are not open, but any member can request to be put on our agenda to bring something to our attention; simply call the office at 973-948-2550 and ask to be put on the agenda for the next meeting. Meeting dates will be posted on this Forum.
SPEED LIMITS AROUND THE LAKES
At the October meeting, the Board voted to send letters to Hampton and Stillwater Townships asking them to restrict speed limits on the public roads to 25 MPH in our community. (NOTE: speed limits on private roads in the community are 15 MPH)
